Weekly Trend of Natural Gas and LNG Prices

LNG and Spot Gas Prices, 2021 - 2022

(23 May, 2022 updated)

The Northeast Asian assessed spot LNG price JKM for the previous week (16 May-20 May) fell to USD 20/MBtu on 17 May from USD 21/MBtu the previous week, then rose as buying bids gradually emerged from Korea and other countries, reaching USD 23/MBtu on 19 May, but fell to USD 22/MBtu on 20 May as European gas prices declined. The European gas price TTF continued to rise from USD 27.5/MBtu the previous week to USD 28.9/MBtu by 18 May, due to the anticipated decrease in gas supply from Norway to Europe and concerns about supply disruptions from Russia to Finland, before falling to USD 25.4/MBtu by 20 May as European gas storage increased. The U.S. gas price HH continued to rise from USD 7.7/MBtu the previous week to USD 8.4/MBtu on 18 May, mainly due to increased demand for gas-fired power generation due to heat waves in Texas and the Central Plains, but dropped to USD 8.1/MBtu on 18 May.
